Dyeing – The Foundation of Color & Expression

Dyeing is soul of every rug.

You will witness how raw material wool and cotton are infused with vibrant colors using natural and synthetic dyes. Our skilled artisans will demonstrate the dyeing process, showing how the right temperature, technique, and time affect the richness of the final color. You’ll get to mix dyes, watch the fibers absorb the shades, and understand how colorfastness is achieved for long-lasting vibrancy.

Spinning – Creating the Threads of Strength
Once the fibers are dyed and dried, they are spun into yarn. In this step, you will see how raw wool is twisted and spun into strong, durable threads using both traditional and modern techniques. This stage is crucial as it determines the texture and durability of the final rug. Feel the softness of the yarn and try your hand at spinning under the guidance of our artisans.

Weaving – The Heart of Handmade Rugs

Our artisan spread their emotions during weaving rug

Weaving is where magic happens! Using traditional handlooms, artisans meticulously weave the yarn into stunning patterns, ensuring precision in every knot. You’ll be introduced to different weaving styles, such as hand-knotted, hand-tufted, and flatweave (dhurrie) techniques. Our weavers will guide you in trying your hand at weaving a few rows, giving you a deeper appreciation for the time and patience required for every rug.

Washing – Enhancing the Texture & Softness

After weaving, the rugs go through a thorough washing process to remove excess fibers, dust, and dye residues. You’ll learn about the special treatments used to soften the fibers and enhance the rug’s texture. Some rugs undergo stone washing or herbal washing for a unique vintage or antique look.

Lunch Break – A Taste of Rajasthan

You will take a 30-minute break to enjoy a traditional Rajasthani meal, featuring authentic dishes that reflect the region’s rich culinary heritage. This is a great time to relax, reflect on what you’ve learned, and engage in conversations with artisans.

Finishing – Trimming, Burning, and Final Touches

After washing, each rug undergoes finishing, where loose fibers are trimmed, and patterns are sharpened. One of the most interesting techniques you will see is burning, where the rug is carefully passed over a flame to remove excess fuzz and smoothen its surface. This process ensures a clean, polished look while maintaining the rug’s softness.

Packaging – Preparing Rugs for the World
The final step is packaging, where rugs are folded, wrapped, and packed for delivery across the world. This stage involves strict quality control, ensuring that every rug meets international standards before being shipped. You will see how artisans carefully handle and package these valuable pieces to maintain their shape and quality during transit.
